This design provides for a different experience incomfort, aesthetic, and economy. With about six hundred feet of south facing glass ( the house is faceddue solar south) the winter months provide the solar porches with the warmth of a Florida Room duringthe 50% solar days of this latitude. The comfort factor is subtle but noticeable in extreme weather, in that the walls are close to air temperature, minimizing convection currents and the radiation of our bodies to the solid surfaces. The Woodstock Soapstone provides additional comfort and beauty in the evening but was not used to actually heat the house. The house was tested and found to be one of the tightest houses the scientist had ever tested.
